RSG: Trial Prep

Trial of Chairman Mao: Witness Question Sheet
Directions: You as a witness are to write four questions and answers in the perspective of your character using the book as a reference. You should find passages from the novel in support of Chairman Mao OR evidence against him depending the side of the case you are representing. Remember to USE page numbers and POST these questions on your blog. Lawyers, use this document to create cross-examination questions. Two per character should be sufficient.

1. Question: Why did you start the Cultural Revolution?

3. The "Four Olds" are "old ideas, old culture,old customs and old habits" (P21). Old ideas are of religion and mythology. Old culture is old literature and old clothing. Old customs are old maners and tradtion. Old habits are rightism. They need to be destroyed to build a strong Socialist Republic. "Prosperity" means to make a fortune. This is considered an old thought because Mao says only rightist make fortunes.

4. Xenophile is someone who loves anything foriegn in Revoiouionary China foriegn infulence is considered bad.

5. Da-zi -bo are large posters used to humiliat people. Jiang Xi-wen is Ji-Li 's aunt. Ji-Li hangs a da-zi-bo other her house because she is accussed of being a righest.

6. Ji-Li stops going to school for a while because she was acused of being a rightest.

7. A rightest is a member of a conservitive party who disagrees with the Communist party. To remold ones ideology somone would hink of the good thing Communism brings.

8.Ji-Li's grandfater was land lord, this affects Ji-Li's life because land lords and there relatives are considered the worst of all rightists.

Blog Question: After the Bully Lab was renamed, the Revealers, and the stories of the three Darkland students were released and well received by the student body, Elliot wanted to publish Russell’s narrative about Richie punching Russell in the face.
1) Why was Russell so opposed to the idea (pg. 110)? Explain. (4 pts)
2) What is happening to the relationship between Russell and Richie. (3 pts)
3) Two Peer Comments (4 pts each)

1) Russel is opposed by the idea of putting his story up, because he thinks Richie will beat him up again for talking about him. On page 110 Russel says to Elliot no way when he asks him if he will put his story of Richie punching him in the revealer. This proves that Russel was opposed by the idea.

2) The relationship between Russel and Richie was pretty bad for most of the book then in the boiler room chapter it gets really bad then at the end they become friends.
